As we undertake to keep up with the rest of the world and technology... we will attempt to keep our thoughts penned regularly for you here on our blog. Most importantly, we would like this to be a reflection of the love of our Faithful Saviour, Jesus Christ.

who am I kidding?

I had fancy dreams of completing books for all my kids every year.  I did really well...for a while.  Then, it became one book for all combined every year.  A few months ago, I used the flood/move as an excuse that the blogging had been sporadic.  Now it is another 2-3 months later and I am still behind.  My high hopes are looking further and further a distant reality.  Or maybe...just maybe...the lack of posts will make it that much easier to create a book at the end of the year! :)

So, here mid-February I attempt to catch up on a few months of happenings and pictures.

Dressed up for Christmas Sunday

David started this year doing a daily devotional reading from Genesis and then doing a Lego challenge that fit that day's reading.  The first day of reading included God creating plants and separating the land and the water.  The second day of reading was the sun and stars in the sky.  I love how creative my son got with these assignments!

One day while I was gone, Michael snapped these pictures of the kiddos.  The image of A in her pink Barbie dress with the Darth Vader mask is such a perfect image of this little juxtaposition.  She is a girl of extremes.  This shows up almost daily.  And her inner struggle to grow up is very real.  She tells me she wants to be a baby still.  See her family portrait--drawn this week-- of her (purple dot) as a baby still in Mommy's tummy...but when she asks why she has only a little cereal, she somehow isn't so sure of being a "little" girl.

And then there were some really cold days!  (see posts on snow and more snow/ice!)  E insisted on wearing an old baby fleece hat...the same one she wore when she was 2 and 3 years old!

Other days the girls sported head scarfs and bathrobes while doing school.

The kids had been taken with the sequin "flip" pillows that were everywhere this year.  When Krogers had some on clearance for a dollar apiece, I bought each child one.  E used hers to make the most artistic pictures imaginable.  What a gal!  This is her first picture.  Quite obviously a girl and boy holding hands under the word love.

My other little girl is also an artist but more in the vein of the modernists.  She has a wacky but fun sense of color and she is a natural cartoonist.  Look at her self-portrait!

Shortly after Christmas, A leaned down at the table and came up crying.  She declared she had bumped her eye.  I looked.  All seemed fine and I didn't think much more of it.  24 hours later, she had a huge bump right above the eye.  And it was a bit red.  By two days later, her eye had turned black.  It proceeded to turn every shade in the rainbow for 2 whole weeks!  We joked that she looked like she was wearing eyeshadow on one eye.  She wasn't so excited about that but still smiled and posed for a few pictures over the days.

As usual, there was some dressing up these months--one day was cowboys, another day some sort of super-girl/fairy/evening get-up.

The kids have also played with the usual legos.  There were a few creations by David...and duplo creations by all kids one afternoon: dragons and eagles.

David too has instigated quite a few water fights.  The kids are loving living on a cul-de-sac and ride bikes constantly.  One day I came outside to find them thus:

There have also been a few times in the past week that they have gone swimming (or at least David did).  Looking forward to the summer...

 (she posed--not my idea)

A quick trip to Kroger with A right before Valentine's Day...no hiding the evidence of the chocolate covered strawberry from her siblings.

Girls with curls

Big furniture boxes generous enough to easily fit all three kids.

Life is settling back to a rhythym.  We are loving our new home and loving our time together.

another year older and wiser

We celebrated Daddy's birthday this year with friends/family.  None of whom were aware that they were part of his special day.

We had lunch and pie with our friends (now practically family), the Andersons.  After lunch, my brother and family arrived to finish off the day.   What a sweet day!

~Just us five

This was the first year in a long time that it was "just us" for Christmas both before, during, and after.  It was a nice opportunity to slow down from the moving activities (or hit pause) and just enjoy the time together.

We decided to open gifts on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  As usual, it was on a very relaxed timetable.

We really tried to keep it minimal this year.  The stocking gifts were all cheap dollar store gifts and each child only had 3-4 bigger gifts.  But by the time we opened a few gifts from grandparents etc, we had quite the plethora.

David: books, more books, audio CD from Grammy and Grandpa, a clock and a tangrams set from Gram and GDaddy, several bags of legos, an electronic toothbrush, audio books, lego tape, swim torpedos, Battleship, and his biggest gift that he had been playing with for months--a foosball table.

Elizabeth: a lego set, several arts and crafts sets, her own hair brush like Daddy's, DVDs, books from Grammy and Grandpa, and paper dolls and jewelry from Gram and Gdaddy

Abigail: her first lego set, more legos, her own hair brush like Daddy's, a CD that wasn't in its case! (warning to check in the future, Goodwill.  Mommy couldn't stop laughing and crying over it--A just looked and Mommy with concern and said, "It's ok, Mommy!", DVDs, a book from Grammy and Grandpa, paper dolls and jewelry from Gram and Gdaddy, a backpack, and her oversized plush unicorn

Both girls received fans that David purchased with his own money!

Daddy got a replacement frother, grill light, books on CD, a surprise picture of the kids, deodorant, a perplexus ball, and a yeti tumbler from Gram and Gdaddy

Mommy got everything she bought herself + a very special gift.  Daddy had gone to great efforts to ask Mrs Sally to purchase a turtle boot scraper for him (I am apt to coincidentally find out about gifts beforehand).  This is a replacement of one that went RIP several years back.  It had a long history.  The gift really touched me.  Read more why here.

There were also our usual ornaments: a tardis and a doughboy for Daddy, Charlie Brown and tree for Mommy, Batman lego for David, singing Elsa and co for Elizabeth, and singing Little Mermaid for Abigail.  Aunt Sarah also sent us a New Digs ornament.

As a final gift, the girls were sent on a scavenger hunt throughout the house to find clues to their "big" gift.  It was hiding in Mommy's closet.  But where arriving there, both girls looked right past it for about 5 minutes before thinking to peek under the sheet.  What a surprise!  E was jumping up and down.  The requested doll house!!!

A lovely time in our new house!
