The first was right before our anniversary and served as an anniversary trip...with all the kids! (oh, and work...) Michael had headed to Roundrock for business on Monday. When he found out the two day trip would likely be extended to three or four, he suggested we drive up and join him on Tuesday. But there is no way we wanted to miss "Cow Day" at CFA! We headed to the local CFA for breakfast and made the decision on a whim by 10 am to take him up on the quick trip and meet him there.
We enjoyed the beautiful drive and arrived around 2. Just in time to get dressed back up in our cow outfits and get a free lunch at the CFA in Roundrock. And God was so gracious to put the CFA within a two minute drive and adjoining parking lots to the hotel. He also placed a Walmart in the adjoining parking lot and a Macaroni Grill within 20 feet of the front door of the hotel.
I had done research on activities in and around Roundrock. Other than outdoor activities, I was coming up pretty short. And it was HOT! We were all still tired from the drive and a pretty busy summer so I decided to just relax in the room and play games (we brought sorry and dominos), watch a lot of HGTV with the kids, and go to the hotel pool until M got done for the afternoon.
We ended up at the Residence Inn in Roundrock and I cannot say enough good things about the staff. You feel as if you are in a CFA...they were all so kind, cheerful, bend over backwards to serve and take an interest in your life.
And even better? During the week they provide "light snacks." Hah! That Happy Hour is actually a full dinner with beverages (we chose to partake of the non-alcoholic variety). The first night we had hamburgers and salad and fruit. The second night was tacos. No need to get any dinner. Only M decided to order Macaroni Grill for carry out and I got a bit of his yummy Penne Rustica (a treat since the local-to-us MG in Houston closed down).
The next morning we had a great breakfast...everything imaginable (including brie). And the day which had been intended for site-seeing (by us--M was working) was actually another great opportunity to laze around the hotel room playing games, taking naps, watching HGTV again and then going to the pool and finally playing basketball on their court (albeit did not last long due to the heat). I discovered that the pool is the perfect size and depth to be able to sit on the side and never be out of reach of the kids. I could sit and relax while they swam (see my toes?). I did get in the water too some. E expanded her swimming skills a lot in the pool and the pool rings got put to good use. The staff cheerfully mopped up after my kids who kept tracking wet water in on the way to the bathroom.
M's schedule ended up very sporadic since the testing kept being delayed so we got to spend a lot of time with him too. We even got to spend lunch with him on day 2 (Subway). As mentioned above, we had tacos (and more MG) for dinner.
And then at checkout the next morning, we got our stuff together and headed back to Houston. It had been an unexpected but very enjoyable 2 night vacation!
