As we undertake to keep up with the rest of the world and technology... we will attempt to keep our thoughts penned regularly for you here on our blog. Most importantly, we would like this to be a reflection of the love of our Faithful Saviour, Jesus Christ.

coordinating dresses- a photo excuse
Elizabeth and Abigail dress themselves most of the time these days. They came down in coordinating dresses a few days ago. It was the opportunity I needed to stop and take some pictures.

Thursday of thanksgiving
No, I do not mean the Thanksgiving-holiday-eating-too-much-turkey that probably came to mind.
This day was in September on the week of our family mini-vacation/staycation.
Thursday started with my first Precepts study for the year. I had sorrowed and shed more than a few tears over having to quit BSF this year. We were doing a new study Revelation to add insult to injury. I really wanted to do that study! But God had different ideas and a far better plan for me. Shouldn't I say "better" even if simply because it is His plan??? :) It was nice to see the beauty of His plan unfolding, however.
I knew our church had a Bible study on Thursdays and that they had childcare for the older kids. Once BSF was off the table, I planned on doing that although I was not thrilled about doing a topical study. I discovered that there was the option of Precepts and that this year they would be studying Hebrews. This was some consolation since that is a study that I have not done with BSF. In preparation for the first week's study, I had started the first week's lesson and it had me reading through all of Hebrews several times. The more I read, the more I marveled that God had provided this book in the midst of our spiritual warfare. How perfectly He orchestrated this! I can see how this book is the hope and exhortation I needed for just this season of life. Thank you, Lord!
Thursday afternoon we took advantage of M's time off and headed to the free night at the Houston Children's Museum. Normally with a hefty price tag as well as a pretty hefty parking fee, we were all able to go in for the total of only the discounted $3 parking fee.
The kids had lots of fun!
We started out in the Kidopolis. This part has always been my favorite, but last time we came, E was probably about 6 months old and D was just too little to enjoy it. A was not even born. This is a row of "stores" that can be interacted with like in the real world. There is a bank where you can cash a paycheck and take out "money" and/or get an ATM card. There is a stock market building, a newsroom, a polling spot, a diner (kids can eat or work there), an art studio (real painting done there), a vet store, an ambulance and a police station/car, and an HEB grocery store with food and prices and checkout lanes etc...which are all run by the kids. So cool!
When I gave each of the kids a grocery list to find in HEB, it was funny to watch. A just picked random items. D had to meticulously match up the items to the items on the picture list. And E ignored the list entirely and ended up with an entire basket of breads of all kinds and a little bit of chocolate. :)
David's chief interest in the Kidopolis though was acquiring as much money as he could. He worked in the diner to get a paycheck. And he scrounged "money" from wherever he could find it. He and Daddy had built up quite a sizeable savings account on their play ATM cards by the end.
We dragged the kids out of there though in order to do some of the other fun stuff at the museum. We spent a few minutes playing dancing games. Daddy was good!
And then went downstairs to run an obstacle course--D was certain he was going to win American Ninja Warrior. David also did some rock climbing and made it all the way around the wall without help!
Then there were some probability games and other educational games.
And finally the Invention Convention area. This area is really cool and set up with 6 or 7 different stations that have all the necessary supplies to create your own invention of a specific nature: lego derby racer cars, air rockets that will be tested in another area, parachutes that have to stay in the air a long time, robot races, gears and cogs stuff, cgi illustration, a ball chute etc... We spent most of the rest of our time here.
We sped through the international town on our way out of the museum.
A nice trip for a busy week. The kids are already talking about returning.
We came home for a very late dinner. I made sandwiches for the girls and while I was finishing everyone else's dinner, I sent the girls into the dining room to eat. I heard screaming a minute or two later. I ignored it since this is a common occurrence at our house, but decided I had better check it out a few minutes later when it did not calm down. A had pulled a dining room chair down on top of herself and was pinned on the floor with a large goose egg on the back of her head, but what I noticed first was the blood gushing from her mouth and all over her hands and now on the rug and her shirt. I grabbed her and rushed her to the kitchen supposing a rather profuse, small surface wound. What I found instead once we got her cleaned up was a pretty gaping gash on the side of her mouth where the two lips meet. It was bad enough and still bleeding after some pressure so I called up my bro-in-law and facetimed him. He suggested we might want a stitch or two but said that emergency clinics would be hesitant to operate on her and so I should take her to our pediatrician's office (this after hours), but I knew they would likely not do it either. We decided to pray over her and see what it would look like in the morning. Once again, God faithfully provided His grace. By the morning, A's cut had closed nicely and looked like it would heal fine. And now a week later is almost non-existent!
This injury was just another thing in the already difficult week, but God so faithfully showed us Himself in the midst of it all! Even when all else seems to be in complete unrest, He is our rest. And we can always be thankful for Him!

We ran out of time for another science section upstairs and the water playground outside. And A was getting crankier and crankier.
