Labor Party

We enjoyed this Labor Day at my sister's house in Victoria. We threw a party for my sister-in-law and brother in celebration of their soon-to-be "labor." They are in the final stages of adopting two sweet children.

After we arrived Friday night, we enjoyed some scrumptious homemade pizza. (the food is always so yummy!) The following day, we started with a scavenger hunt through the house searching for the presents at the end of the hunt. A few of the searches ended a bit prematurely due to some extra-helpful children.

The afternoon was full of pool time and happy tummies (another good meal). We threw on some clothes and dashed out the door for church that evening.

Sunday morning we enjoyed the slightly cooler weather and heavy wind as we explored a local gardens (including a dance hall and old-fashioned bar) Great place for lots of pictures!

The final piece to our weekend was the perpetual stop at Buc-ees in Wharton, a first for our little girl.

There are so many things that David says these days that I want to remember for posterity, mostly because they are just so funny and I will not always have this little boy. I must get better at putting them on the blog-and subsequently in his book.

Tonight when putting him to bed, he said, "What is Daddy doing?"

Me: Daddy is watching TV.

D: No, Daddy not watch tv. Daddy turn off the tv.

M: Uh, we'll see.

D: Daddy turn off the tv.

M: You certainly are opinionated, aren't you?

D: No! I not opinionated [stumbling over the word a bit]. I David.

This same line of reasoning has come up over and over again recently. At least he knows his name finally!

the round of birthdays

not only do we have a niece, David, Dad, Mom, and sister in quick succession of birthdays, but now I find that Thomas, Emily, Henry and Douglas are thrown in there too; at least, according to David. I was requested to sing Happy Birthday to each of them tonight after prayers. (of course, you know who these extra folks are, right???)

3 yr stats

David's stats were not too much of a suprise today. He weighed 34 lbs. 6 oz. (which is about 75%ile) and was 39 1/4" tall (82%ile). What was more surprising was the way he lay perfectly still and calm while they stuck him with a needle and then drew blood (and this also required poking around in his arm with the needle since they missed the vein). He was so brave!!! He also got back his results of the cholesterol test, the test they neglected to tell me he was having until we arrived. Not too suprisingly with a family history of high cholesterol and a little boy who had just finished breakfast it was quite high at 203. We will retest in a few weeks, but how can I get my active boy much more exercise than he already gets? He runs everywhere! And his diet? He so rarely touches red meat, cheese, eggs, high fatty foods, and never fried food. Let's just see what 6 weeks and no breakfast brings...
