The last week of October through the beginning of December were in our new house but life was too busy to document much and again, almost never with the slr.
These pictures are often blurry but quite aptly represent those rather foggy 4 months between the flood and Christmas.
The time before we left for Sherman~
While in Sherman there was much dressing up...
We also explored a bit on the weekends when Daddy was around. One weekend we went to downtown Denison and explored the antique shops along Main Street. There was the niftiest antique car shop in an old building. We enjoyed our greasy burgers at Watson's drive in too. Fun to take in the local atmosphere. We drove by Dwight D. Eisenhower's birthplace home on the way back to our home.
Another weekend we drove to Oklahoma--just because we could! We didn't have any goal in mind once we crossed the state line but we explored quite a few back roads. They were quite picturesque. Old bridges, sod farms with acres and acres of green grass, roadrunners everywhere, and houses so deep off the path they did not have trash pickup and were burning their refuse out back. After several hours of driving around, we headed back to our beloved home--Texas!
We enjoyed the wildlife we saw in the back of the house--including a hawk on the fence.
We also relished the opportunity to be in a small church again...(as we had growing up). The church had a wonderful Reformation Day presentation. David sang with the choir. We watched some interesting videos that game the backdrop. Then the pastor got up dressed like Martin Luther and did a brief reenactment. We had activities that were based on various aspects of the Reformation or the time period, including archery. The kids also got to bounce on a long blow up mat. What a treat!
The Sunday we left, the kids sang in church again...this time all three.
Most lovely was our time with cousins, aunt, uncle, and grandparents!
We moved back to Houston the last week of October. Once again the Andersons welcomed us into their home and lives for the week of closing until the movers could come. Our kids ate up the time with them--searching for snails, legos, and hanging out. (we did too--except no snail hunting; the adults stayed up way too late watching the World Series. Astros won!!!!)
The day of our closing, a sweet friend offered to watch my three in addition to her four (on a homeschooling day, nonetheless). Thank you, Katie! The kids always have fun together.
We went to a church halloween event at a friend's house that evening. Once again, there was a plethora of kids around. Who knows what the boys were doing, but the girls were all doing crafts as organized by the eldest, Charis.
We moved into our house the first weekend of November. While all the boxes were unpacked within a week, the house was a disaster for weeks. This, however, did not keep the kids from enjoying the house and playing. They quickly found the dress-up clothes, baby dolls, and legos and started back with usual activities.
The leis were their inspiration after watching Moana.
There were many other hair-dos. Some done to themselves....others to Mommy.
E also clips any bow she can (and often as many as she can) to her headbands--or just stacks headbands. She will wear these lovely arrangements with her pajamas before bed or with her out-and-about clothes.
Life in the new house has been full of makeshift tables and sitting on the floor. (albeit we have solved most problems, minus a few chairs still)
We have not let that stop us from having family over. My brother (who lives in Uganda) has come over several times with his family. The kids have even swam in the pool (brrr....too cold for me, but high 70s outside and mid 60s water was fine for them, apparently).
We have also spent lots of time at Lowes--every mover's favorite store. We have spent countless hours too at furniture stores trying to replace the downstairs furniture (more on that in another post). On one of these occasions, E started screaming that she was bleeding. Apparently, she had taken the opportunity to lose another tooth. We found a restroom and washed up. The tooth fairy forgot (again) to visit for about a month, but did eventually make an appearance.
The blur of the previous several months were finally interrupted by Christmas activities. (also another post or two). Daily thankful that we are in a new (dry) house that is lovely. While these past months went by like a blur, I am so thankful for the time we had in them to spend with family and friends. Welcome December...
