celebrating! Party on...backwards

(that title was a reserved version for you, ADW and MAW)

David chose what he wanted to do today for his fifth birthday.  He requested waffles for breakfast.  Then, he wanted to go to church to show his friends his lego star wars shirt (and no, it is not new).  This shirt just exemplifies him so well right now!  First of all, it is brown--his favorite color.  It is long-sleeved, but who cares if it is over 100 degrees outside???  He loves legos.  And currently he is loving playing the Wii "Lego Minia Jones" (Indiana Jones) and Lego Star Wars with his Daddy.

After playtime at church (and a brief workout for me), we went to Walmart to pick up some frosting for his cake--just did not feel like making from scratch this time-- as well as he got to pick out his lunch.  He wanted a lunchables.  He ate that with a banana.  Snooze time this afternoon and for the first time in a while, he just played quietly in his room the whole time until I called him downstairs to help make his cake.

He requested cupcakes instead of cake so we made 14 vanilla cupcakes with strawberry shortcake mix in the frosting.  The flavor was scrumptious (thanks 12 cent moneymaker from Duncan Hines!), but the color was not so masculine.  IT did turn the icing into a nice pink color.  We added some green food coloring to try and attempt his favorite brown but ended up with a dull gray instead.  Oh well...it was far more livened up by the colorful sprinkles on top.
 
When Michael got home we had a celebration.  We did everything backwards.  First, we opened presents.  David got a pirate book from Grammy and Grandpa. (we had fun reading tonight).  He got some McQueen cars from us, two lego bible DVDs, some Angry Birds fruit snacks, and then for good measure (for all the sweets) some kid's toothpaste, and two light-up toothbrushes.

Then we went outside for his last big gift.  A scooter!  He had been asking for this for about a year and we finally got him one about 6 months ago and then stored it all these months.  It took him a few minutes after rushing outside to figure out what his gift was, but when he did, he excitedly tried it out--rather skillfully too for someone who has never really driven/ridden one.

We came back inside for cupcakes.  He adeptly blew out the candle and we all digged in and enjoyed a cupcake.  (even Abigail--who was not pictured below)

After dessert we had David's dinner request, Macaroni and Cheese.  At least, he and I did while the girl's complained and Daddy left to go out to eat for Bible study.

Time to watch his new DVDs and then off to bed.  What a swell birthday!  Suddenly, you are well out of the toddler/preschool age and on to becoming a young man!

the perfect moments

I had eventually planned to take a last shot at my little "thing" photos.  I told M I even planned to set up a "studio" someday before Biz outgrew her shirt (soon).  That time came sooner than expected though when David put on his shirt yesterday and asked to have pictures taken.  I decided there was no harm in trying despite the fact that it was late in the day (normally a rotten time), and there had been little thought in it.  I am glad I did try.  Bizbeth's shirt is just about outgrown, but then so is A's shirt....something I had not expected.  The conditions were not perfect, but the results were!  Yeah!  And the price = zero.  (the candy bribe offered the two olders worked for the first time)  Thank you, dear husband, for creating the giggles!

the anti-climactic month

Abigail is now 13 months old.  Not much has changed. 

 

 

She still is not walking, but she does stand more comfortably on her own.  She also appears to prefer standing and desperately wants to  walk, but just not willing to risk it.  She walks extremely well holding both our hands and even can walk moderately capably holding only one hand.

Everyone wanted "in" on helping Abigail...not always appreciated but sweet.

No new words still.  She still is limited to "no.no.no." while shaking her head.  She turns it into a game with strangers too. :)  She will say "dadada" but not on command and "mamama" but only when I pick her up from nursery (never on command!!!)

All size 12 months clothes and up.  In fact, she and E are wearing the same size shorts so I am not sure where to put clean laundry.  Sometimes A gets it, sometimes E.  Still size 3 diapers.  We got shoes for the first time this month.  They are size 3-4.  She does not seem to mind them but we have not worn them too often while she is learning to walk.  I keep thinking she is a cute chubby baby, but she is actually very small weight percentage for her age, and it shows when she takes her shirt off. 

Appetite continuing to grow but she is growing a bit more distrustful of foods she does not know. (Arghhh... like the other two)  She has dropped one of her morning bottles though and only tends to drink an afternoon bottle aside from mealtime.  But this does not stop her from trying to drink everyone else's sippy cup. 

She adores being held and is the cheerfullest little soul when held by Mommy.  That can all change in an instant though if she is tired and gets put down. 

Still not a whole lot of hair in the front although the back has filled in nicely. 

She did get her third tooth this month (top front left).  Perhaps this is why she had a fever and runny nose this month?  (or was it a brief virus?)

Abigail definitely has a sweet beauty mark at the center of her top lip.  An angel kiss...

Will she be walking by next month???


PS.  Did you notice that almost all the pictures were taken with a bottle in her mouth??? :)  That is just a coincidence...maybe.
