impromptu vacation and God's faithfulness: post 4 and final

The last half of Tuesday was also very calming to the spirit.  We headed northeast of San Antonio to Natural Bridge Caverns.  The drive out there is lovely and peaceful.  It feels like wild hill country. Once at the caverns, there is a lot to do there but we opted for just the original discovery tour due to time constraints.  (next time we hope to do the maze too--and yes, I think it warrants a return trip).

Natural Bridge is named after the natural bridge formation just above the entrance to the caverns.

We entered the caverns and felt the temperature drop and the moisture drip.  The formations were incredible and impossible to capture in scale and dimension via camera!   The rooms started out smaller and the path steep and windy.  We ended up 180 ft below ground and in a room that is absolutely massive!  But unlike that, the openings in the rocks that the discoverer's used and some of the other passageways were quite claustrophobic.  So glad I was not among the first explorers. 

All the big formations are given names; my favorite was the King's Throne.

After discovering that our pictures were not so well-lit, we agreed to pay the inflated price for a family picture that they took.  It did turn out nicely.

Again outside, the feeling of serenity overcame me.  Scrub brush and cactus.  Trees and open land.  Truly it is well with my soul!

And as if to seal the promise of God's faithfulness, we experienced a magnificent rarety on the drive home:  an incredibly vibrant double rainbow!
